3 day gorilla trek Congo tour is a short low land gorilla tour designed for those adventurers who have limited time in the country but would wish to encounter with one of the rare and fascinating species of low land gorillas in their natural habitats.

This tour takes you crossing the borders of Rwanda and  Congo to Kahuzi Biega National Park. Congo has both mountain gorillas which can be seen in the Virunga National Park and Low land gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National Park.

Day 1: Pick Up, Go for Kigali city tour and Transfer to DR Congo

Detailed 3 Day gorilla Trek Congo Tour

Day 1: Kigali – Transfer to DR Congo Bukavu

The distance from Kigali city to to Cyangugu/Rusizi Border is approximately 2oo kilometers covered in about 5 to 6 hours by car. From the border to Bukavu district is about 20 kilometers covered in about an hour, then from Bukavu to Kahuzi-Biega National Park headquarters, it is about 50 kilometers taking about 2 hours by car. therefore, the total distance from Kigali to Kahuzi-Biega National Park is about 270 kilometers covered in approximately 9 hours taking almost a full day hence requiring us to embark on it as early as possible.

Therefore, after your breakfast, our driver guide will pick you up from your lodges or from the Airport case you reached in the morning and head out for a thrilling city tour where you will visit the Gisozi genocide memorial site, vibrant local markets, and then drive to Congo via Cyangungu border to Bukavu town.

At the town, you will spend an overnight and have dinner at Orchid Safari Lodge which is a mid-range accommodation, or at Hotel Horizon which is a budget.

Day 2: Lowland Gorilla tour in Kahuzi Biega

This thrilling adventurous day starts as early as 6:30 AM with a warm breakfast and a cup of coffee and then a transfer to Kahuzi Biega park headquarters. At 8:00, you go in for a briefing about the general rules and guidelines for your gorilla trekking adventure.

After the briefing, you embark on guided gorilla trails to the lowland gorilla habitats which lasts about 3 to 4 hours depending on their location. To the habitats, you are accompanied by an experienced park guide, a porter in case you need assistance with your luggage and an armed park ranger to ensure your safety.

After the gorilla tracking adventure, in the afternoon you will embark on guided nature walks around the park which will offer you an up-close of the rich biodiversity of what is withheld within the park boundaries inclusive of a visit to the Kibati waterfalls.  you will also get an opportunity to visit the nearby local communities and Bukavu town.

you will later be transferred back to your lodges where you will dine and relax after a long adventurous day. this will also offer you enough time to have yourself organized and prepared for the following day’s departure to the airport.

Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali

wake up with a warm breakfast and after you can either decide to check out or engage in some activities like visiting the nearby areas later our driver guide will head you back to the city either to the airport or any other your preferred destination.
