A gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park lasts anywhere between two to six hours depending on the location of your assigned gorilla family on that day. Once you encounter it, you will have a standard time of one hour, observing them groom, interact, forage, and behave, from the playful juveniles to the dominant, majestic silverbacks, offering an awe-inspiring experience. Day 4 is a day of tracking another endangered and fascinating primate thriving in the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park. These playful primates are sought-after mountain gorillas and are loved for their distinctive vibrant golden orange fur and energetic antics.

A golden monkey tracking adventure in the park is less strenuous compared to gorilla trekking as these magnificent primates prefer inhabiting lowlands featuring less dense forests, specifically the bamboo forests making tracking them easy and enjoyable.

Similar to mountain gorilla tracking, golden monkey trackers are organized into small groups of up to 8 individuals, each accompanied by an armed ranger and a knowledgeable park guide. This activity is dynamic and engaging, as it involves following the monkeys as they leap from one tree branch to another, making physical preparedness essential for a truly immersive experience.

Once you have located your assigned golden monkey troop, you have one hour to observe them leap through bamboo forests, interact, play, and forage. although they are jumpy now and then, they get time to settle down for example when eating hence offering you an opportunity to catch the best shots.

In the afternoon, you can unwind at your lodge or opt for additional activities such as a visit to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo or a short hike to the Dian Fossey Tomb, a site dedicated to the legendary primatologist.
