How many Days Left to the Long anticipated 2017 Kwita Izina Ceremony

With only one month left to the most blogable Kwita Izina Ceremony, everyone is in high gears for the long awaited day to experience some of the baby mountain gorillas being named. The Kwita Izina is a long-established tradition in which Rwandan families conduct an event to name newborn babies and welcome them into the family. For over three decades before the first official gorilla naming event, the Volcanoes Park Rangers and Researchers named the baby gorillas in Rwanda as a significant part of the continuous programme (done for all the National parks where the mountain gorillas are found) in observing each Individual gorilla in the family and habitat. However, now the advantage of naming the baby gorillas has currently been a presentation to the general Public. This exceptional Rwandan event was initiated in 2005 with an aim of sensitizing and creating awareness of conservation efforts for the endangered Mountain gorillas, but 12 years down the road the event gets better every single year.

Currently both Rwandan hosts and the guests can participate in an authentic historic event by naming the next generation of critically endangered Mountain gorillas. In this lifetime event, the most authoritative government officials to the lowest shop owners are invited to the annual Kwita Izina event. All you need is to save the dates and appear for the event.

This year that will see 19 baby gorillas be named starts from the 26th of August 2017 to the 1st of September which is the highlight of this wonderful event. The 2017 exceptional Kwita Izina ceremony and all the related events are as follows;

The first day of the one week long event starts on the 26th August 2017 with a Gala Dinner. The Launch event of the long awaited Kwita Izina week will involve a captivating dinner where the tourism stakeholders meet up to celebrate a shared purpose by dinning and wining. The main aim of the dinner is to seek support (in form of funds) for Rwanda’s ongoing prosperous conservation projects, mainly the expansion of the Mountain gorilla habitat. The dinner is also to raise funds for crucial Conservation projects. Interestingly, the dinner celebration is a black-tie dinner with lots of entertainment (especially that fit the event), auctioning and action-packed lucky draw prizes among others.

From 27th to 28th August is the Conservation and Tourism exhibition. This two day exhibition aims at allowing the general public and the industry players to display Rwanda’s achievements in the Conservation activities by showcasing the wide range of tourism products within Rwanda and also host education displays, and the activity is also good for networking.

There will be a “Conversation on Conservation” conference from 28th to 29th August 2017. This two-day event brings delegates from all over the World-especially conservation experts together to discuss issues concerning Africa’s common Conservation challenges and come up with lasting solutions to conserve ecosystems for future generations, hence achieving some of the sustainable Development Goals. The cross-cutting theme for the conversation is “Engaging Youth in Conservation Innovation and some of the common topics for the discussion include Conservation-a collective responsibility and Conservation in the face of climate change.

The scientific tour will be from 30th to 31st August 2017, and will involve a number of behind the scenes scientific tours and provide tourists with the exceptional opportunity to go through the authentic firsthand experience with Mountain gorilla conservation and Veterinary programme in Musanze (Northern Province of Rwanda), have a direct encounter with the Gorilla Researchers and Park Officials.

The highlight of the event is the “Kwita Izina Gorilla naming Ceremony” on the 1st September 2017 at Kinigi Park Headquarters (Volcanoes National Park), in Musanze Province. Come in large numbers and unite together for the utmost Celebration of life as newborn gorillas are given names at the 13th annual gorilla naming ceremony. This year will see over 19 newborn mountain gorillas get named. From the inceptive launch of the Kwita Izina event in 2005, over 240 mountain gorilla babies have been named, although you shouldn’t expect the Mountain gorillas to be brought to the Venue. The positive achievements have been unsurpassed and this year you should expect an exceedingly positive achievement.

In conclusion, the Kwita Izina Ceremony is an evaent exceptional to only Rwanda and unites different attendees from within Rwanda and other parts of the World. This one-week event involves several interesting activities which all contribute to the Conservation of the Rwandan Mountain gorillas.
